On Saturday, March 25, downtown Quebec City will resound to the sound of bagpipes and the steps of the participants of the 11th Quebec City St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

The classics

Four outside bagpipe and percussion groups will be present, including Boston ( Boston Police Gaelic Column of Pipes and Drums), New York ( Pipes & Drums Of The Emerald Society of the New York City Police Department), Chicago(Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department) and Toronto(Toronto Fire Services Pipes and Drums).
The Quebec City St. Patrick’s Day Parade offers a unique opportunity to see all these groups perform at the same event.

The Quebec City Police Service’s ceremonial unit also joins the party with the RCMP Pipes, Drums and Dancers, the Olde Fort St. John St. Andrew’s 78th Fraser Highlanders and the Druméthiques de Québec.

A colorful parade

Citizens will also see a parade of Irish greyhounds, Celtic dance troupes, leprechauns, historical entertainers, circus performers, Gaelic soccer clubs and a fine representation of Irish families who participate in the event year after year. In total, more than 50 groups of participants are joining the Parade!

Grand Marshal 2023

Mr. Joe Lonergan, Grand Marshal of the 11th edition

Joe Lonergan, a native of Quebec City, has always identified strongly with his Irish roots. A graduate of both St. Patrick’s High School and St. Lawrence College, he obtained a B.Ed. and an M.A. in History from St. Mary’s University in Halifax. After teaching at St. Pat’s for 33 years, he admits that his love of history and abilities in music served him in good stead both in his career and in retirement. For 12 years he was President of Irish Heritage Quebec and remains on its Board of Directors. Author of two books, Shamrocks in the Maples and A Natural Affair, Poems and Stories, Joe has a dedicated following on social media. As a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, he has served as a parish trustee, on several parish committees, and is currently a member of the choir. Joe is married and has four adult children and five grandchildren.

The Québec City St Patrick’s Day Parade is more than 1000 participants, musicians, dancers, buskers, Irish-born families, charitable organizations, historical re-enactors, leprechauns and the ‘little people’, all of whom enliven downtown Quebec each year to the great delight of the spectators. Join the celebration! Be right in the heart of the festivities!
